Listening is often seen as a passive activity, but it is an essential part of effective communication. It involves not just hearing the words being spoken but also paying attention to non-verbal cues, tone of voice, and emotions behind the words. By actively listening, we can better understand others, build stronger relationships, and foster empathy and understanding.
How can you celebrate World Listening Day?
Listen to those around you - Take a moment to truly listen to your family, friends, coworkers, or even strangers that you interact with on July 18. Put away distractions such as phones and tune in to what they have to say.
Practice mindful listening - Mindful listening involves being fully present in the moment and paying attention to all aspects of communication. Try this with a loved one or during a conversation with someone new.
Share your experience - We want to hear from you! Share your experiences of active listening on social media using the hashtag #WorldListeningDay and tag us (@northernpharmacy). Let's spread the message of effective communication and understanding through listening.
Continued efforts for promoting active listening
While World Listening Day is one day out of the year, it is important to continue promoting and practicing active listening in our daily lives.
