CDC recommends meningococcal vaccination for all preteens and teens to protect against a potentially serious illness. The vaccine is recommended at age 11 to 12, with a booster dose at age 16 to ensure continued protection during the high-risk teenage years. Teens and young adults can also receive a MenB vaccine. Talk to your child's doctor about getting vaccinated to safeguard their health. Meningococcal disease is uncommon but can have devastating consequences, including meningitis and bloodstream infections. Survivors may experience long-term disabilities.
