August is a month dedicated to the celebration of breastfeeding. Throughout this month, we observe various events that highlight the importance and benefits of breastfeeding. These include World Breastfeeding Week, Indigenous Milk Medicine Week, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Breastfeeding Week, and Black Breastfeeding Week. These annual global campaigns are dedicated to raising awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding. It is a crucial initiative following a concerning increase in infant mortality rates due to a decline in breastfeeding rates. While ultimately the decision is personal, did you know the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends breastfeeding until a child reaches two years of age? Let's come together this World Breastfeeding Week to support and promote breastfeeding for the well-being of our children. Learn more: https://www.who.int/health-topics/breastfeeding#tab=tab_1
